Elementary swapped the classroom for a dairy floor this week, with a field trip to Aavin's milk processing plant to see exactly where the milk on their breakfast table comes from. Greeted at the gates by the co-operative's familiar blue-and-white insignia, the students moved through the plant in groups, tracing the path milk takes from can to carton.

Staff walked them through each stop along the way — hygiene checks, quality control, the machinery that chills, processes and packs the milk on schedule — while the students took notes and fired off questions of their own. It was a hands-on look at the journey behind something they see every day, and a first lesson in the teamwork it takes to get milk from a farm to a home.
